How to Maintain and Clean Wall Panel

  • Published: Oct 5, 2026

When choosing a decorative wall panel, most of us focus on the model and colour; maintenance usually comes to mind only after installation. Yet whether a panel keeps looking like new for years largely depends on a simple, regular maintenance habit. We've put together a practical plan for wall panel maintenance and cleaning.

The basic rule: gentle and regular

Textured surfaces, with their recesses, projections and joints, are more prone to collecting dust than flat walls. For this reason, regular, gentle care gives better results than occasional heavy cleaning.

Routine maintenance

Dusting

Dust on the surface can be removed regularly with a soft-bristled brush, a feather duster, or a vacuum cleaner's brush attachment. A soft brush makes it easier to deal with dust that gathers in the joints.

Damp wiping

When needed, the surface can be wiped with a well-wrung, soft, damp cloth. For heavier dirt, a small amount of mild cleaning product can be added to the water; the surface should then be rinsed with a clean damp cloth and dried.

What to avoid

  • Steel wool, stiff brushes and abrasive sponges
  • Bleach, thinner, acetone and similarly strong chemicals
  • High-pressure water and steam cleaners (especially indoors)
  • Leaving the surface wet for extended periods

The safest approach when using any cleaning product for the first time is to test it on a small, inconspicuous area first. If model-specific care recommendations exist, those should take precedence — you can get this information from our team.

First response to a stain

For splashes like coffee, oil, paint or cosmetic products, the most important rule is not to wait. Before it dries, the stain should be lifted by blotting gently with a soft cloth — not rubbing — then wiped lightly with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, we recommend consulting our team.

A maintenance plan by area

Homes

  • Living room and bedroom: dusting once a month, damp wiping as needed
  • Entryway and hallway: check every two weeks due to more frequent contact
  • Around the kitchen: more frequent damp wiping against grease vapour

Businesses

  • Cafés and restaurants: weekly checks in heavily used areas like behind the bar and counter. See our café decor article.
  • Hotels: add dusting the panel surface to the room-cleaning routine. See our hotel rooms article.
  • Hair and beauty salons: an end-of-day check against chemical splashes.
  • Gyms: weekly checks in contact areas.

Exterior panels

Panels used outdoors are exposed to dust, rain marks and pollen. Cleaning with a soft brush and low-pressure water once or twice a year is usually enough. Periodically checking the joints and connection points is also recommended. For outdoor products, see our exterior facade panel range.

In case of damage

If a panel is damaged by an impact or accident, the modular structure usually makes it possible to replace just that section. For this reason, keeping a few spare panels after installation makes it easier to find a matching piece from the same colour and batch later on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I paint the panel surface?

We recommend keeping the panels' factory colour and surface as they are. If you're considering a colour change, check with our team first.

Do white panels need more maintenance?

Light-coloured surfaces can show marks more clearly, so slightly more frequent checks are recommended in heavily touched areas. See our white brick wall panel article.
